The Gibson Dove - Sunburst is a distinctive and non-traditional acoustic guitar, known for its unique combination of a Hummingbird and SJ-200. This stunning dreadnought, made in 1972, features a beautiful aesthetic with its mother-of-pearl dove pickguard, making it a true visual standout. With a Sitka spruce top and maple back and sides, it offers a classic, balanced tone that stands out in a mix or on stage. Its square shoulder dreadnought construction ensures excellent tonal balance and sustain, while its maple neck with a traditional rounded profile provides great playability.

One of the key characteristics of the Dove is its use of flame maple for the back and sides. This unusual choice gives the guitar a certain crispness and clarity that makes it stand out in a crowd. Its solid spruce top, with its resonance and sustain, helps balance out the brightness of the maple. The guitar also comes with a longer scale length of 25.5 inches, which contributes to the clarity of the tone and gives more room on the fretboard.

The guitar is finished with a beautiful cherry sunburst finish and features a tortoiseshell pickguard with a beautifully inlaid mother-of-pearl dove. The rosewood fingerboard is adorned with mother-of-pearl double parallelogram inlays.

This 1972 model comes in very good condition and is fully functional despite showing a few slight marks or scratches. The pickguard is lifting up in some places, with a number or marks throughout.

The bridge has a hairline crack, but our Luthier has inspected this and believes it to be stable and non-detrimental. The guitar could benefit from a refret - but this choice will be left to the new owner who may wish to preserve the original frets, which are playable as they are.

Overall, the 1972 Gibson Dove - Sunburst, made in the United States, is an excellent choice for players looking for something a bit different with a vintage look and a crisp, bold tone.

Everyone at Studio 1 is so amazing, they are so understanding and helpful. They helped me find the perfect guitar for me. I wish more dealers in the US were as outstanding as this crew is. And it’s pretty obvious their website is one of the best in the business. Just because you are not in NZ, do not hesitate, they know what they are doing!

Dana, I’ve been waiting for this guitar for many years, Thank You!!!

Well Garrick you’ve delivered once again mate. This “0” size “Country Boy” by Dana Bourgeois is just incredible. Very elegant in design, nothing superfluous just master grade materials and a deep appreciation of all possibilities resulting in a strong, clean and uncluttered sound from a very user friendly instrument. Tight but loose at the same time, wonderful.
Thanks Garrick and Co.
Thanks Studio 1 Vintage Guitar’s.

Communication was great, delivery was super quick and packed so well. The guitar is everything I thought it would be. I have a 74 D50R which is quite a chunky neck, still lovely to play though, this one has a slimmer neck which suits my hands much better. Love the feel, sound and the look of this guitar. I would buy from these guys again if anything came up that tickled my fancy. I'm a very keen Guild collector, so I'm super happy I have this one now.
