Soprano ukuleles

The soprano is the original size and the sound most people picture when they think of a ukulele: bright, boxy and a little percussive, with a scale length of around thirteen inches. It is the smallest of the four sizes, the easiest to carry, and the cheapest way into the instrument.

It suits strumming and singing, travel, and children. The frets sit close together, so complex shapes above the fifth fret get tight, and the small body will not give you the volume or sustain of a tenor. For most people that is a fair trade. If you want the classic ukulele sound and nothing else, this is the size.
