This is a very well preserved Martin D-28 dating to the "golden era" of postwar Country music in the early 1950's, when few of the stars of the day would be seen without one! After WWII the D-28 was the biggest, best and most expensive Martin guitar available. The elaborate pearl trimmed models were discontinued during the war and not revived, leaving this comparatively austere rosewood guitar as top of the line. Despite strong competition from Gibson's Jumbos, by the mid-'50s the D-28 was the absolute final word in a flat-top instrument to most professional players.
Huge sound and balanced tones all round. The highs are clear and crisp, coupled with that big Brazilian rosewood low end. This has been played well, so has all your standard pick ware is on display. The guitar is fitted with a K&K pickup and comes with a Hoffee case.
NB: There is a top seam crack between pickguard and bridge and one on the upper bout, but rest assured they were well repaired. Looks to have had a neck reset long ago and this looks to be well done also.
Everyone at Studio 1 is so amazing, they are so understanding and helpful. They helped me find the perfect guitar for me. I wish more dealers in the US were as outstanding as this crew is. And it’s pretty obvious their website is one of the best in the business. Just because you are not in NZ, do not hesitate, they know what they are doing!
Well Garrick you’ve delivered once again mate. This “0” size “Country Boy” by Dana Bourgeois is just incredible. Very elegant in design, nothing superfluous just master grade materials and a deep appreciation of all possibilities resulting in a strong, clean and uncluttered sound from a very user friendly instrument. Tight but loose at the same time, wonderful.
Thanks Garrick and Co.
Thanks Studio 1 Vintage Guitar’s.
Paul, Sydney.
Communication was great, delivery was super quick and packed so well. The guitar is everything I thought it would be. I have a 74 D50R which is quite a chunky neck, still lovely to play though, this one has a slimmer neck which suits my hands much better. Love the feel, sound and the look of this guitar. I would buy from these guys again if anything came up that tickled my fancy. I'm a very keen Guild collector, so I'm super happy I have this one now.
Wow probably the best guitar I have ever played. Garrick found this for me after some lengthy conversations and he delivered and some. This is second guitar from these guys and they rock for sure. Always so helpful and quick to answer any questions. Words can’t express how impressive these guys are. Lifetime customer.
I thoroughly enjoyed my buying experience through Studio 1 vintage. Nick is an amazing guy full of the information that I was looking for to make the proper decision on the right guitar for me. He’s patient, professional, and very talented musician. How I found your company was through YouTube and the great videos and demonstration’s that he does. I’m looking forward to doing future business with you guys all the best. Cheers.!!
