Arahi Live at Studio 1 Vintage Guitars

Recently we were treated to an intimate performance from prolific indie crooner, Arahi. He's been making his way around the top part of the North Island treating audiences to songs from his soon to released album and promoting the current single, Baby's Back and Studio 1 Vintage Guitars was the Auckland stop on the tour.

Stepping onto stage in black and flanked by Amy Boroevich and Francesca Parussini (who delivered a crowd pleasing sax solo) the band opened with the slow burning ache of "We've Seen Better Days" before launching straight into "Baby's Back". The minimal instrumentation of acoustic guitar, keys and vocals highlighted the strength of Arahi's lyrical imagery to great effect. Wearing his heart on his sleeve is something that Arahi owns exceptionally well, similar to the way Chris Isaak does and as he dealt out heart felt numbers like a lolly scramble the audience were transfixed. Midway through the set Arahi was joined on stage by none other than Reb Fountain, for a cover of the Dylan classic "It Ain't Me Babe". Harmonizing the whole way through was a delight to listen to and it's clear that they know and respect one another's craft well.

A few well thought out covers were played and perhaps to everyone's surprise the group dropped a fantastic version of "Boys Of Summer", made popular by Don Henley replete with drum machine and haunting synth lines. All in all, a mesmerising night of music in the palm of Arahi's musical hand. Check him out online and watch out for our next in store show.
